I was quite impressed by his speech. It was the Obama that I was so impressed with in 2008. He actually spoke his mind. He cracked some jokes. He seemed like he was back to his usual form. The majority of his new suggestions were fantastic. I was glad to see he wants to address the issue of college costing too much. Also, I was impressed with how he wanted to deal with taxes for the rich.
But, this speech also woke me up. Obama is the perfect campaigner. He can fire up any crowd. He gives fantastic speeches. But, he never acts on it. He just keeps on saying get it to my desk and I'll sign it. Obama needs to take authority. He needs to push his weight around as President.
After this speech, I don't know who to root for in the 2012 election. Obama seems like the safe option, but I don't want another 4 years of saying we'll get them next year. And Obama is leaning on the death of Osama as the biggest crutch. He opened and closed with that last night. This speech is just going to be another empty promise to a nation that needs big change. Change is needed in Congress, in the Precedency and maybe even the constitution.
I didn't have a chance to watch this, but it will be interesting to watch it after reading your opinion and being able to pick out the things that Mrs. Garber was talking about.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I don't really have much faith in Obama. He didn't change anything. And this is incredibly racist but I saw it on Reddit: "You thought Obama wasn't a typical black guy? It's been four years and he still owes you change."
I know one of the reasons he hasn't done anything is that the president doesn't have as much power as we think he does and Congress has a difficult time agreeing with each other. However, he gives beautiful speeches (probably written by a genius grad student)and makes huge promises he can never keep or pull through on.
I don't want another four years of nothing. I'm not Team Obama.
Also, I need to watch this thing, I feel like a loser.
After following the other campaigns a bit, I think Obama is the best option, and probably the safest option. I realize Obama hasn't been the greatest president, but he's also far from the worst. The economic problems aren't easily fixed and they weren't really his mistake in the first place. But Obama has done fairly well to stick to his guns so far and uphold our rights as well as get the country on what looks to be the right track. Of course, no president will be perfect, but we often have the choice of the lesser of two evils.
